Decided last night to change the name from “Monday Morning Ann-Sense” to “Monday Ann-Sense.” It just seems like a better title for my Monday posts. Ideas come out of holidays like that. In fact, that’s how “Monday Morning Ann-Sense” came about from in the first place. That’s why taking some down time is so important. A seed for ideas can be planted.
While I can’t totally shutdown when on holiday due to client commitments I do scale back. A lot. I don’t write unless the spirit moves me. I check email once a day and only respond to urgent ones. Same goes from picking up my phone and returning voice-mail. I don’t read my RSS feed. And I limit my time on social media. It is refreshing.
As a recovering workaholic (common condition in the field of public relations and marketing), I really struggle with downtime and/or just doing nothing with my mind and body for period of times. It isn’t in my nature to just sit around. I’m now realizing how important taking vacation is to my health and well-being.
Vacation helps restore the mind and body. Studies are showing that people who take holiday come back to work feeling rested, rejuvenated, and reconnected with their life outside of their work. People come back from holiday feeling better about their job making them more productive.
Stop trying to do it all and be it all. Take time to recharge. You’ll thank yourself.
