That’s right. You should be the lead in your own life story. In fact, you should write your storyline. Pick the theme music. And make it work for you. It is temping to let others direct your story, but who better than you? We’re already a week into a new year and a new decade. I’m always amused with all the hype of New Year’s resolutions. The morning TV programs, women’s magazines, and applications for smart phones all touting how to make and keep resolutions… how to write and direct your life story for the new year. While a supporting cast and crew is needed to make it good, it all comes down to you.
I’m not one to buy into all this hype, however, I’ve been reflecting recently. A retrospective of the Ann Brand. A lot has happened in the past three years let alone the decade: a seat at the table in c-suite as a PR professional, became a mother, moved half way across the country to a place where I had no connections, became a stay-at-home mom, and started my own consultancy. Lots of plot twists, but good has come from all of that change. I’ve been able be a full-time parent to my son, not missing one moment of his young life. I grew as a professional of which this blog is a result and embraced new medias. I’ve had a chance to slowdown and appreciate the small things in life I had forgotten about.
It looks like 2010 will be a huge year of change, kicking off the new decade. Honestly, I don’t know what 2010 is going to bring, but I plan on continuing to learn and grow. A new job following my passion for public relations? Switching out the stay-at-home parent role with my husband? Moving to a new place and meeting new people? All most likely. And that’s OK.
Change is progress though it can be scary and painful. I’m ready to embrace the plot twists not yet written. I’ve decided to be the lead in and direct my life story as only I can. There’s going to be a lot of revisions to the storyline. The theme music may change, but so far it is Gwen Stefani’s “What are you waiting for?”.
Lights, camera, action. I’m ready for Ann Brand: 2010. A blockbuster or an indie sleeper hit, it doesn’t matter because I’m in the director’s chair.
